HDD Canine Care & Training Technician

We are a top-tier dog training and behavior facility looking for two new members to join our tight-knit team. Our balanced approach to dog training is based on decades of experience with individual dog training and pack behavior based on the most current canine neuroscience research. These open positions would be 20-25 hours a week over 4-5 days a week. Morning shifts and night shifts available.

Job Summary:
This client-facing position is responsible for caring for the client and rescue dogs in our very busy boarding facility, for continuing and augmenting the training of boarding & daycare dogs, and for cleaning and maintaining the facility itself. It is a fast-paced, think-on-your-feet job that requires strong critical thinking and time management. It is also very physical and requires a balance of attention to detail, multi-tasking and big-picture thinking.

The work environment can be loud and smelly, and hot or cold depending on the season. We work outside a significant portion of the day and are on our feet an average of seven miles per day for an eight hour shift.

Job Duties:
Dog Care:
• Care for 40-75 dogs daily – walks, potties, playtime, etc.
• Learn the personalities of the dogs in our care and interact with them with strong boundaries and high expectations for their behavior.
• Give baths and the occasional nail trim.
• Feed and medicate our dogs with impeccable precision.

Training:
• Learn our approach to balanced dog training and practice it.
• Learn about dog-to-dog interaction and body language.
• Accept feedback as needed.

Facility Care:
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in our kennels and public facilities.
• Perform daily heavy-duty cleaning and high-volume laundry and dishes.

Qualifications:
• Experience caring for animals.
• Must be completely comfortable around dogs and comfortable working with canine behavior cases. Training will be provided.
• Clear communication skills.
• Able to use an iPhone and Apple Watch.
• Be accountable for your decisions. You will be working as a part of a small team and your choices will impact your coworkers.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs; 35lbs overhead. Frequently bend, squat and kneel.
• Willingness to get dirty, to remember instructions, and to carry out your work with minimal supervision.

Pay starts at $15/hour for part-time positions. Paid time off included for part time employees. Potential for full time available for exceptional employees.
